TATA

Relatively little known in Zimbabwe until a few years ago; the brand is slowly growing in popularity since the appointment of a local dealer. Their pick-ups and trucks have had a few takers, especially among State Operated Enterprises.

Tata Motors is the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover, and has a joint venture with Fiat Chrysler for automotive components.

TATA Motors is an Indian automotive company that is big and popular in its native India. The Tata Group is a conglomerate with interests not only in the auto industry, but also construction.

Besides India, Tata manufactures in the UK and South Africa, among others. Tata manufactures vehicles, buses and trucks across the range, including military vehicles. In Zimbabwe, the pick-up truck Tata Xenon, is the most visible.

Tata started off in 1945 with the manufacture trains. The first vehicle was to come in 1954. This was a commercial vehicle produced with the assistance of Daimler Benz. The first passenger was to follow years later in 1988, the Indica, India’s first fully indigenous car. Later, the Nano became famous for being the world’s most affordable car. It was launched in India, targeted at upgrading many families from a scooter to a family car.

Tata have also recently launched their own product for the growing but now congested SUV market, the Tata Harrier.
