Jeep

Jeep, Fiat, and Chrysler are part of one family, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, since 2014. Chrysler controlled Jeep between 1987 and 1988. Then Chrysler amalgamated with Daimler to become Daimler Chrysler from 1998 to 2007.

Due to these relationships, there is a lot of sharing of technology that happened during the time, including sharing of platforms between the Grand Cherokee and Mercedes ML Class.  The Franchise is held by ZIMOCO.

The Jeep brand is not your common everyday car brand in Zimbabwe. The classy and luxurious Jeep Cherokee at one time flooded the grey market, coming from the UK. Whilst very affordable to buy, most were soon parked after their owners realised that maintenance was way beyond their pockets.

Today, however, The Grand Cherokee is quiet visible among some executives, acquired mainly as new from ZIMOCO.

Jeep is an American brand that has been part of the group since 1987. The Jeep name is synonymous with war since the Second World War, when the first Willys Jeep was produced. The Jeep brand is used to describe a light duty four wheel drive for military use. The technology was used to create the Land Rover and Toyota Land Cruiser J Series. Civilian Jeeps or CJ’s, were sold from 1945. There have been various models since.

Today, they are SUV’s and off-roaders.

The Wagoner and Cherokee are positioned for the luxury SUV market.

Various other models are available, such as the:

  • Jeep Renegade BU, a Subcompact Sport Utility Vehicle,
  • Jeep Wrangler (various models),
  • Jeep Gladiator, a recently released mid-size pickup truck,
  • Jeep Compass, a compact sport utility vehicle
  • Jeep Commander.

For off road enthusiasts and lovers of American brands, Jeep is a sturdy brand to consider. However, it may not be the best option in the grey market, where maintenace costs may be a challenge for many.
