Castrol recently introduced the CRB Brand of Commercial Vehicle Engine Oil. The brand replaces Tection in a stream-lining exercise. You might have already noticed the 20L and 5L green packs in spares shops.

According to Castrol, the technical story behind brand is concerned with dealing with sludge and oil thickening.

Engine oil is subjected to high temperatures and pressures. These conditions can trigger chemical reactions that contribute to oil thickening. When lubricants become too thick, oil channels can become blocked. Blockages can lead to oil starvation in vital areas within the engine, which could result in excessive wear and component failure.



During its working life, the engine also faces challenges from combustion by-products that can form deposits on component surfaces, and also thicken the oil. Castrol CRB Multi and Castrol CRB Turbomax combat these issues in three ways:

Castrol CRB contains cleaning agents which displace particles that may otherwise build up on the engine surfaces, reducing deposits.

It also contains anti-oxidants which disrupt the chemical reactions that can lead to oil thickening.

Castrol CRB provides effective piston deposit control and maintains its viscosity to encourage long and healthy engine life.

Excessive piston deposits, as shown below, can lead to ring sticking or bore polish, which contribute to shortened engine life. 

Castrol CRB contains cleaning agents which cling to the surface of components and react with deposit-forming chemicals, preventing build-up.
